CARING FOR AMERICA

    2010 Caring for America Project

Lee Republican Women Federated is proud to have chosen “Paws for Patriots”, a charity of South Eastern Guide Dogs as our “Caring for America Project” for 2010. This worthy charity is supported by donations from our membership.
Since being founded in 1982, Southeastern Guide Dogs has been a proud supporter of Veterans. They have a long history of training guide dogs to work with people with multiple disabilities.

The aims and goals of “Paws for Patriots” is to provide trained dogs to as many Veterans as possible. Not only are these dogs a lifetime companion for our brave Veterans, the dogs are also used as therapy dogs in the many Veterans hospitals.
Our monetary support for this charity allows for the valuable training of these dogs, including equipment such as harnesses, which are purpose built to fit the dog and various other support systems.

The Southeastern Guide Dog center is in Palmetto, FL and they have recently added a “scent” garden as part of the training process of the dogs.

All these services cost money and are not supported by the VA, so we hope you will be generous with your donations, no matter how large or small.

We are pleased to announce that LRWF presented a check for $1500.00 to “Paws for Patriots” representative Roy Kennedy at our January luncheon meeting.  A big “thank you” to all LRWF members who donated to this worthy project.

2011 LRWF Caring for America Project

Our Caring for America project for 2011 is raising funds to help Pfc Corey Kent, a soldier from Cape Coral severely wounded in the Afghanistan War. After being in Afghanistan for only three weeks he was critically injured while on foot patrol, losing both legs and all the fingers on his left hand. He has already had multiple surgeries and faces several more as well as some extensive skin grafting. The LRWF couldn’t think of a more worthy cause to raise funds for this year….Pfc Kent will require a lot of medical care for a long time and our donation will help defray some of these costs!

2012 LRWF Caring for America Project

We raised funds for an organization called Footsteps to the Future….this group supports girls who have “aged out” of the foster care system. They give some financial assistance, provide counseling, help those who have not graduated high school get their GED and also get them into higher education programs or training to be a beautician, cosmetician or other trades. They have a home in Fort Myers where these girls can just come and get moral support.

2013 LRWF Caring for America Project

In 2013 we’ll be raising funds for Voices for Kids, a non-profit agency supporting Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program-Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. The Guardian ad Litem Program supports volunteers who advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned children in court, the child welfare system and the community. VFK’s mission is to ensure every abused, neglected, and abandoned child in Southwest Florida has a Guardian ad Litem volunteer (GAL) and every GAL has access to financial assistance and resources available for meeting the child’s health, educational and social needs, not provided by any other source.
